Morgan, Your article today is truly beautiful. You open up an interesting dream for the world: what if all of us, each day, sat in witnessing silence, heart-connection with another -- offering them a sanctuary space to connect deeply, deeply with wherever they are at. What if this was done for us each day as well? What if our youth grew up in such a culture? And if this was done for them, and they learned to do it to (just from experience)? I've heard that the Birkina Faso people of West Africa (where Malidoma Some is from) enact grief rituals every day. It does seem to me that our culture is in such desperate need to safely, compassionately express its many emotions: rage, grief, .... Right now they are sprouting out all over the place, in chaotic, destructive, selfish ways, and our youth suffer because of it, because we adults do not connect with our hearts and with the range and depth of emotion in grounded, authentic ways. Anyway, thank you again! I'm glad you're out there believing in the youth, holding space for them, and gentling others to hold space for them and nourish them in all ways -- including their fiery vision and hearts, their true selves. Cheers, Jane Valencia |
